Diane Phalen, D.P.M.
Diane Phalen, D.P.M.

Dr. Phalen was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she lived for 18 years. She will always feel a strong attachment to the state where, as she puts it, "the weather can be cold and brutal but the warmth of the people more than make up for it".

She graduated from the University of Florida with a chemistry degree. She chose Podiatry as a profession because of her interest in biomechanics and because it was a growing specialty that seemed to be finding its niche.

The California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco was where she got her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree. She then did her surgical residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and fell in love with Central Texas.

Dr. Phalen was the first full-time Podiatrist in San Marcos. Having lived in this fast-growing town since 1987, she has been part of a rapidly expanding medical community which now includes many specialists. She was a founder of the San Marcos Surgery Center, the first free-standing ambulatory surgery center in the area. Dr. Phalen is board certified in foot surgery and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgeons. She is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, the Texas Podiatric Medical Association, the American Academy of Sports Medicine and an Associate of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

An accomplished tri-athlete, Dr. Phalen has always valued the importance of fitness, health and well being. "With many of my patients, my goal is to help them overcome their foot pain so that they can be active, whether for exercise purposes, work or just getting through daily activities. If you have a nagging foot problem, it's hard to be an effective worker and almost impossible to exercise. As we all know, exercise is a great way to control blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and is a fantastic stress reliever!"
